Treatments for insomnia in children

Treatments for insomnia in childrenThe child insomnia tends to affect many children, and although parents often want to use a prescription for treating insomnia, most importantly look for any underlying medical or psychological problem that may need to be treated.

For example, if you have obstructive sleep apnea and snoring at night and frequently stops breathing, then you may need treatment. If you have frequent nocturnal cough due to asthma may not be well treated.

Sleeping pills are not always the solution, and often is not approved for use in children.

Among non-pharmacological treatments for primary insomnia, or insomnia in children can choose:

  • Limit time spent in bed only for sleeping, that is, do not look TV, do homework or read in bed.
  • Take time to go to sleep and wake.
  • Teach relaxation techniques so they can use to bedtime.
  • Limiting the hours of stimulating activities to 30 or 60 minutes before bedtime.
  • Avoid caffeine.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • See a counselor or child psychologist may also be helpful.
